What rough-cut capacity planning is
Rough-cut capacity planning checks whether a demand plan fits on the critical resources before anyone commits to it.
Rough-cut capacity planning (RCCP) takes the demand plan by product family and turns it into hours on each critical resource. It then compares those hours to the hours the calendar really offers. At the company, that means checking whether the next twelve weeks of demand fit on the bottling and packing lines at Plant 1 and Plant 2.
The method is simple. The work is in three inputs: which resources count as critical, what rate you believe, and how many hours are left after planned downtime and changeovers. Use the demonstrated rate, not the engineered rate, or the check will say the plan fits when it does not.
The answer RCCP gives is either “this plan is possible” or “somebody has to decide something.” This page is a placeholder and will be replaced by the full lesson.
