Capacity planner
The capacity planner checks whether the plan fits on the plants and lines, and raises the decision when it does not.
Responsibilities
- Run the rough-cut capacity check each week against the latest demand plan.
- Keep line rates and available hours current with what the plants actually run.
- Bring overloaded weeks to the planning meeting with options and their costs.
Decisions this role makes
- Whether to add overtime or a shift inside the fence.
- Which family to pre-build when a later week is overloaded.
The capacity planner owns the question “will this plan fit?” At the company, that means eight lines across three plants, checked week by week. The job is mostly keeping the inputs honest: rates, calendars, and changeover time. When a week does not fit, the capacity planner does not pick the answer alone. They bring the options to the people who own the cost.
